BOISE -- Idaho's Mother of the Year was recognized today at the governor's office.

Lt. Gov. Brad Little honored Boise Sen, Cherie Buckner-Webb at a ceremony this afternoon.

Buckner-Webb is a fifth generation Idahoan who has been married for 25 years and has two adult sons and a granddaughter.

She is also an accomplished gospel, jazz, and blues vocalist.

Buckner-Webb has been in the Idaho Legislature since 2010, serving as both a representative and senator.

She says being Mother of the Year is a wonderful honor and that she wants to represent those women with the "mother spirit."

"Some people are not meant to be mothers. They're great aunts, they’re great neighbors, they're great,” said Buckner-Webb. “But you can have a mother spirit. And for those that do, that's who I want to represent. Because I believe every woman has a choice to decide her life's journey. And so those with and without children -- mother by choice, mother by calling, mother by birth."

Buckner-Webb says her philosophy on parenting is simple -- honor the past, embrace the journey, and leave a legacy.
