BOISE – A 32-year-old Boise mother is charged with felony injury to a child after her 5-year-old daughter was found shivering and crying in her pajamas outside her home early Sunday morning.
Officers were called to a home on the 3300 block of N. 34th Street shortly after midnight. Neighbors reported that a young girl was standing alone outside.
When police arrived they determined the shivering and crying child had been outside for more than 15 minutes in the cold weather. It was 27 degrees at the time.
Officers knocked on the front and found that is was unlocked. They went inside to check on the occupants and found Amanda Thomas passed out in a bedroom. Another small child was also in the room.
When officers woke up Thomas they could smell the strong odor of alcohol. Her speech was slurred and she could not tell them where her children were or who they were supposed to be with.
Thomas was arrested on the felony charge and booked into the Ada County Jail.
The two children were placed into protective custody with the Idaho Department Health and Welfare.
