BOISE -- Students at Whitney Elementary School in Boise got a special surprise Friday - new musical instruments worth $12,000.

The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation donates instruments to music programs across the nation.

"We feel just so honored to have received this generous donation. Our students here at Whitney will benefit so much from this wonderful gift, said orchestra director Khrista Rowland. "Many of these students are unable to buy from the store. By having instruments available through the school, we give all the students an equal chance to participate in band and orchestra."

Students got a total of 14 new instruments including trumpets, saxophones, violins, and cellos.
