BOISE -- The city of Boise is launching a new campaign against idling -- the practice of leaving your car engine running while in line at a drive-thru or waiting to pick up the kids from school.

In his weekly memo, Mayor Dave Bieter says the city council is concerned about idling's effect on the valley's air quality.

The city's campaign will include educational signs in loading zones and parking areas, as well as a website about the problems associated with excessive idling.

Meanwhile, a new anti-idling law will take effect next year in Oregon.

That's one reason a Baker City truck stop has installed some new equipment.

The Baker City Truck Corral today held a grand opening for its truck stop electrification equipment. That allows truck drivers to run heaters, air conditioners and appliances at the truck stop without running their engines.

The Baker City installation is the first of 50 at truck stops around the country as part of a project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.
