BOISE -- The Boise man charged with grand theft for taking another man's injured dog and its puppies said he's giving the puppies back.
Troy Jackson plans to give the puppies to the sheriff of Jefferson County.
Jackson says he struck a deal with the dogs' owner in southeastern Idaho to take care of the animals until they got better.
But after he brought the dogs to Boise for care, the owner claimed he didn't have proper permission and filed a complaint.
Jackson said he's giving the puppies back because they're now healthy.
Their mother, Jackson said, is not -- and that's why he's not giving her back.
Jackson doesn't know if this means the charges against him will be dropped.
