BOISE -- Trail Wind Elementary and Les Bois Junior High were on lockdown for more than an hour after a report of a shot fired around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
After a quick, large-scale search, police said nothing was found to substantiate that report.
Neighbors said police officers with assault rifles were patrolling the school grounds.
Today is an in-service day for teachers, so no children were in class.
However, there were about 60 children, ranging in age from preschool to 6th grade, at a childcare program at Trail Wind Elementary, according to Dan Hollar, spokesman for the Boise School District.
Parents were allowed to pick up their children at the school with a police escort.
Just before 4 p.m. both schools were taken off lockdown and returned to normal status.
