BOISE -- With Thanksgiving now one week away, the Boise Rescue Mission is asking for help to fight holiday hunger.

The mission has registered more than 4,000 families for holiday food boxes - complete with turkeys. That's on top of the annual Thanksgiving banquets next week in Boise and Nampa.

Executive director Bill Roscoe told us Thursday they still need about 1,300 turkeys to fill all the orders.

"It's a combination of more people have signed up and fewer people have donated turkeys this year. I don't know what the reason for the second part is. The first part of it is we've seen more people at our meal services all year long."

Roscoe says the mission depends on holiday donations to help cover expenses into the spring and summer.

If you'd like to help, you're encouraged to donate a turkey or other non-perishable food at any mission facility, including the mission warehouse on South 24th Street, the River of Life Mission at 13th and River streets, or City Light Home for Women and Children at 14th and Jefferson streets in Boise, or the Lighthouse Mission in Nampa.
