BOISE -- The man accused of stealing dozens of bikes around Boise last spring has been sentenced to 14 years in prison, but a judge also entered him into programming so he could be released after serving a small amount of time in an IDOC therapeutic community program.

According to online court records, Judge Timothy Hansen sentenced 19-year-old Michael Lawrence to 14 years in prison, with three years before the possibility of parole. Then, he retained jurisdiction, which is a programming option used for some offenders. The program is often referred to as a 'rider'.

Police believe Lawrence stole 13 bikes from a team participating in the Exergy Tour, and as many as 50 bikes around Boise.

He pleaded guilty to grand theft back in August. Prosecutors dropped several other charges in exchange for that plea.
