BOISE --The Bureau of Land Management is temporarily closing more than 54,000 acres of public land for all use due to the Pony and Elk fires that occurred last summer.
The BLM says the land will be closed until April 30th for fire rehab and to protect wintering wildlife.
The land is also closed year-round to motor vehicles for up to three years.
The southeastern edge of the closure area is about seven miles north of Mountain Home and extends five to seven miles north of Immigrant and Foothill roads.
Crews will reevaluate in the fall whether the closure will be needed again next year.
