BEND, Ore. -- Reigning Olympic time trial champion and Boise native Kristin Armstrong withdrew from the last two days of racing at the Cascade Cycling Classic in central Oregon to prepare for the London Olympics.
The Bend Bulletin reports that Armstrong skipped Saturday's Downtown Twilight Criterium despite leading the five-stage race by more than two minutes after the completion of the first three stages.
A crash could have knocked Armstrong out of the Olympics and prevented her from winning a second gold medal.
