TWIN FALLS, Idaho -- The Idaho Supreme Court is considering an appeal by a Twin Falls anti-nuclear power activist who was convicted of battery and trespassing at a public meeting. Chief Deputy Clerk Karel A. Lehrman says the case involving Peter Rickards will be decided solely on briefs and no oral arguments are planned. Lehrman tells The Times-News there's no time frame for when a decision may be released. Rickards was convicted last year after being arrested while passing out leaflets at a public information meeting put on by Alternate Energy Holdings Inc., which is seeking to build a nuclear power plant in Elmore County. The meeting was held at the Glenns Ferry Opera House, which is privately owned by Republican state Rep. Richard Wills of Glenns Ferry. Rickards was accused of shoving Doug McConaughey, a former consultant for the energy company, while at the meeting.
