CALDWELL -- An agriculture group has announced its opposition to a southwest Idaho subdivision the group says will use up land needed for crops.
The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that the Coalition for Agriculture's Future says the proposed Lake Hazel Estates is a classic example of the worst kind of spot zoning.
The coalition says it plans to send Canyon County commissioners a formal letter detailing its opposition to the 55-acre subdivision with 44 homes.
The subdivision is planned near the intesection of Lake Hazel Road and South McDermott Road.
The project received a conditional-use permit in 2007 through a process that no longer exists. But commissioners have to honor the permit.
An additional challenge has been filed on another front.
Citizens Opposed to Lake Hazel Estates in December asked a 3rd District Court judge to toss the permit due to a lack of public hearings.
