Swine Flu POD locations
BOISE -- The H1N1 vaccine is once again available in Ada County.
The Central District Health Department will open its two Ada County Point of Dispensing locations on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The clinics will have access to more than twice the amount of swine flu vaccine as was available on October 24.
The PODs are open to following groups of people, who are considered most at risk from the virus:
- Pregnant women.
- People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age.
- Health care and emergency medical services personnel who are in direct contact with patients.
- Children 6 months through 4 years of age.
- Children 5 through 18 years of age who have chronic medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, lung or heart disease, chronic liver or kidney disease, or are immune-compromised because of cancer treatment or HIV.
The PODs are located at 1001 Park Center Blvd., the former K-Mart store and at 1195 N Milwaukee St., the former Comp USA store. The clinics open at 10 a.m. and will run until 6 p.m. or until the vaccine runs out.
Each clinic will have both the injectable and the nasal spray type of vaccine.
People going to the clinic need to fill out a consent form and are advised to have this done before they line up for the vaccine. Cards will be issued to people standing in line based on their type of vaccine request, but the card is not a guarantee of receiving the vaccine.
The CDHD cautions that while there is a greater supply of the vaccine, that supply is limited and remains unpredictable. They also said that more vaccine arrives each week, and that they will be operating PODs for several more Saturdays until the priority groups are protected. The vaccine will then be made more widely available.
