BOISE -- Denise Engebrecht wants to know who likely shot and killed her sweet pug Popeye.
She's teamed up with two local dog rescue organizations to offer a $1,000 reward for the information.
That's because Popeye was found mortally wounded and wandering on Gekeler Lane in Boise last Wednesday.
A Good Samaritan found Popeye and brought him to the Broadway Veterinary Hospital. There, little Popeye passed away from his injuries.
Veterinarians say Popeye was likely injured and killed by a bullet that entered his body, pierced his colon and aorta, and shattered his pelvis.
Now, Denise Engebrecht is hoping someone will come forward with information that will lead to Popeye's killer.
With the help of Boise's Pug Pals Inc., and the Greater Boise Pug Rescue and Placement, she's created a "ChipIn" account that lets folks donate to the cause. If successful, Engebrecht hopes to offer the reward for up to 60 days. If the reward isn't claimed, the cash will be donated to help other pugs.
Anyone with information about Popeye's death is encouraged to call the Boise Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.
