CASSIA COUNTY -- The Cassia County Sheriff's Office says a 10-year-old was accidentally shot in the head during a family hunting trip Sunday.
Deputies responded just after 10 a.m. to the Jackson area near the Minidoka Dam for an accident involving a firearm.
Authorities say Cedar Glaesemann fell while hunting doves with her brother, father and grandfather. She was carrying a .410 bolt action shotgun that accidentally discharged. She suffered partial injuries to her face and head.
The girl was initially taken to Minidoka Memorial Hospital. She was later flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hospital spokeswoman Bonnie Midget said Wednesday the family asked the hospital not to release the girl's condition.
The Cassia County Sheriff's Office is using this incident to urge hunters to be safe when handling guns.
