MERIDIAN -- Firefighters say they arrived to heavy flames coming out of a garage at home near Victory and Locust Grove late last night.
When crews arrived they say the fire had already spread into the attic, forcing them to cut into the house. Battalion Chief David Jones with the Meridian Fire Department said, "so what they had to do was open the roof up to allow the heat and the flames to ventilate and we were able to get the fire knocked down in the attic from that point."
Jones says two people were in the garage working when the fire started. However, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The garage is a total loss and the rest of the home suffered heavy smoke and heat damage.
