New hotel opens near Nampa Civic Center

The mayor says this will provide a boost to the local economy.

NAMPA - One thing we are constantly talking about here in the Treasure Valley is growth -- with more homes and businesses being built all the time.

Another hotel opened in Nampa Wednesday.

Nampa Mayor Bob Henry says this new hotel will help boost the local economy.

"I've heard for a long time it'd be nice to get a hotel downtown," Henry said.

The idea came about in 2000. And 17 years later, the Peppertree Inn Best Western Plus has finally opened its doors for business.

“We came down here and we just fell in love with the city to be honest. We saw the potential," said Chase Santillanes, vice-president development.

It's an 82-room hotel that employs between 15 and 20 people -- jobs that range from front desk, housekeeping and maintenance.

For Mayor Henry, this hotel is more than just a place for people to sleep.

"I think the citizens are going to just see a real improvement because the civic center is going to be better utilized, more people coming to Nampa, more people seeing Nampa, find out what a great place it is. And that's always good for a community," Henry said.

This new hotel is supposed to help grow the local economy. The main reason is its location.

The hotel is just steps away from the Nampa Civic Center. This is a public-private partnership. The plan is for the hotel and civic center to work together to bring in more events -- including multi-day events.

This is the first of three hotels to come to the area.

Mayor Henry says this is a sign of the development and growth in Nampa’s future.
