Construction is about to begin on what was the largest undeveloped parcel of land in downtown Boise.
A groundbreaking ceremony for Pioneer Crossing took place during the noon hour at the corner of 11th and Front streets.
Pioneer Crossing is the new name for Parcel B -- a five-acre lot that the Gardner Company bought from the Greater Boise Auditorium District earlier this year.
Gardner is working with Idaho Falls-based Ball Ventures on the Pioneer Crossing development, which will include a Hilton Garden Inn, a 132,000 square foot high-tech office building, corporate headquarters for the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, Boise Valley Economic Partnership, and the Boise Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as a 644-stall parking garage.
“There's a definite need for parking, so we're kind of solving ours and everyone else's problems by putting a parking garage in this,” said Tommy Ahlquist, COO of Gardner Company. “There's a lot of new hotels, but in the Hilton brand, there's still room for growth there, so we're excited to have the Hilton Garden Inn.”
Construction on the parking garage will start on October 1st.
Ahlquist says that will take about a year, then the hotel construction will begin, which he says should also take a year to complete.
