Boise Airport, chamber working to bring back Atlanta flight

BOISE -- You could soon be able to fly non-stop from Boise to Atlanta.

The Boise Airport and Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce announced today a grant program hoping to convince Delta Airlines to bring non-stop service from Boise to Atlanta. Last year a potential non-stop grant was applied for, but Boise didn't win that grant. This year they're trying again.

"We've raised more than $200,000 in matching funds to make this grant a stronger grant," said Bill Connors with the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce. "We went through this last year, we didn't win, we're going to try again. As a matter of fact, we're going to be tenacious about expanding air service here in Boise."

In 2005 through 2009, Delta served Boise with a non-stop flight to Atlanta, but that went away with the economic downturn and increased fuel costs.

In the past year, airlines have added non-stops from Boise to Houston, San Diego and Chicago-Midway.

So far, Delta has pledged to send Boise a letter of interest.
