Bogus Basin welcomes airmen for annual appreciation day

About 1,300 airmen from Mountain Home Air Force Base spent the day Bogus Basin on Friday.

BOISE - Military members from Mountain Home Air Force Base were treated to a fun day on the slopes at Bogus Basin on Friday.

Members of the 366th Fighter Wing, as well as their families, were offered discounted lift tickets for Gunfighter Ski Day, an annual tradition that goes back more than a decade.

It's a way to show appreciation to airmen for their service and sacrifices.

"We're happy to open our area up to the airmen," Bogus Basin General Manager Brad Wilson said. "With the proximity and everything else, it's just great to get them and their families up, enjoy what's so close to them."

The day also serves as one of the four comprehensive airman fitness days that's planned throughout the year.

"We pride ourselves on taking care of airmen and their families," Col. Joseph D. Kunkel said. "The Air Force is a relationship and a lifestyle, not just a job, so this kind of sets that in, the whole relationship and developing those relationships among our airmen."

Currently nearly 200 airmen from Mountain Home Air Force Base are deployed around the world. The 366th Fighter Wing consists of more than 4,800 military and civilian members, and about 5,200 family members.
