BOISE -- The Mountain Home Air Force Base has released the name of an airman who was found dead southeast of Boise Sunday.

1st Lieutenant Curtis Berenguer, 25, was found near Blacks Creek Reservoir off of Kuna Mora Road Sunday.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office said deputies found suffering from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound just after 2 p.m. Sunday. His death was ruled a suicide by the Ada County Coroner's Office.

"This is a tragic event and our hearts go out to his family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time," 366th Fighter Wing commander Col. Joe Kunkel said in a release Tuesday.

According to the MHAFB, Berenguer was from Novi, Michigan and had graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in May 2014. The young airman was first assigned to Sheppard Air
Force Base in Texas as a participant in July 2014, later moving on to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina.

Berenguer had moved to Mountain Home in May.
