NAMPA -- A car chase in Nampa turned deadly overnight when a woman fell from the fleeing vehicle.

The incident happened just after midnight Tuesday morning.

According to Nampa Police, officers pulled over 46-year-old Joe A. Nevarez in the 1600 block of 2nd Street South.

Police say Nevarez drove away from the traffic stop, spurring a police pursuit. In the 1800 block of 2nd Street South, a female passenger fell out of Nevarez' vehicle.

She suffered fatal injuries, police say. The woman's name has not yet been released.

Nevarez kept driving, police say, ending up in the area of Highway 45 and East Locust Lane. At that point, police were able to ram his vehicle using a PIT maneuver, bringing it to a stop.

The driver was taken into custody on felony charges of drug possession and eluding. It's unclear whether he will face additional charges related to the woman's death.

The Canyon County Critical Incident Task Force, led by the Idaho State Police, has been called in to investigate the woman's death.

KTVB is working to gather more information, check back for updates.
