CALDWELL -- The defense attorney for a teenage boy accused of slashing his girlfriend with a knife in Nampa earlier this year has indicated the case may be moving towards a plea deal.
The pre-trial for 17-year-old Wyatt Weist was pushed back Monday, after his lawyer asked the judge for more time to negotiate with prosecutors.
Weist is facing charges of attempted murder and use of a deadly weapon in connection with the attack in the parking lot of Columbia High School Jan. 3. He has been charged as an adult.
Police say another student at the high school intervened, stopping the attack. The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was taken to the hospital and survived her injuries.
Weist's lawyer told the judge prosecutors had already offered one plea agreement, but the defendant turned it down. He said he believed that with "a little more time," the case could be resolved before moving forward to trial.
Judge Bradly Ford granted that request, pushing the pretrial back to April 3. Weist's trial is set for May.
