BOISE - Skaters and scooters hit the pavement Saturday at Boise’s Rhodes Park for the 7th annual Take Pride and Ride event.
Drug-Free Idaho puts on the event each year, to encourage youth to follow their passions and stay away from drugs and alcohol.
Eighty-five junior high and high school students competed for awards in beginner, intermediate and advanced skateboard and scooter events.
“These guys love skating. It’s all about skating for them, and we want to support that,” said Rob Stevenson of Drug-Free Idaho. “We also want to break that stereotype that adults have for skaters, which is that they are all stoners or drug users, and they are not. They are just good kids, and that is their sport.”
Take Pride and Ride started at Pathways School in Meridian.
