School bus crash
BOISE -- A school bus with two students on board collided with a van just after 7 a.m. in Ada County Tuesday morning.
It happened at Locust Grove and Lake Hazel roads. An Ada County Sheriff's Office spokesperson says the driver of the bus stopped at the intersection, saw the van coming - then proceeded to turn. Deputies say the driver thought the intersection was a four-way stop, but it was not.
The Toyota van had the right-of-way according to deputies, and hit the side of the bus and slid under it.
"In this case, the bus driver mistakenly thought the intersection was a four-way stop," Ada County Sheriff's Deputy Jim Long said in a prepared statement. "A few extra seconds to realize the van didn’t have to stop would likely have avoided the crash.”
Neither the bus driver nor the students on board were hurt. The driver of the van was taken to a hospital for treatment. His injuries are described as minor.
Deputies issued a citation to the driver of the bus - Terry Bills, 52, of Star, for failing to yield.
The parents of the two students on the bus were notified of the crash. A spokesperson was not immediately able to say which school the bus was from.
