JEROME -- A Utah man charged with crashing his semitrailer into vehicles stopped at a road construction site in June has pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter.

The Times-News reports 47-year-old Byrus Lyndon Gatewood of West Valley, Utah, entered his plea Monday in 5th District Court in Jerome County.

Gatewood is charged in the death of 62-year-old Dayle Fowler of Hailey, who was standing outside her SUV while traffic was stopped on U.S. 93 near Jerome in south-central Idaho.

Prosecutors allege Gatewood's truck was traveling at nearly 64 mph in a construction zone with a 45 mph speed limit when he hit Fowler, her SUV and two other vehicles. He told investigators he looked down for a second prior to the crash.

Gatewood's trial is set for May 16.
