Third person dies from injuries sustained in fatal I-84 van crash

BAKER CITY, Oregon – A third person has died from injuries sustained during a fatal van crash on I-84 on November 12.

According to the Ada County Coroner’s Office, Phillip Joel Harris, 24, from Attalla, Alabama died early Sunday morning at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, where he was treated since the crash.

On November 12, at approximately 5:20 a.m., a 2002 Ford F-350 van with 16 occupants was westbound on I-84 near milepost 302 on icy highway conditions when it drove off the roadway and rolled multiple times before ending up on its roof.

Two passengers died as a result of the initial crash and fourteen others were transported to hospitals in La Grande, Baker City and Boise for treatment of injuries.

Four passengers are still in the ICU at St. Al’s. Their conditions were not available.

Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation.
