BOISE -- If you are near Bronco Stadium today you may hear the sound of gunshots. That's because the Boise Police Department is hosting a multi-agency tactical training exercise in and around the concession concourse on the second level of the stadium.

The training exercise runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.  It is funded by the Department of Homeland Security and is designed to better prepare emergency responders to respond to and protect large entertainment/sporting venues.

Signs will be posted near the stadium to advise students, faculty, staff and the public of the police training.  There will be large reader boards in the west stadium parking lot and smaller signs placed around the training site. The training area will be cordoned off with yellow police caution tape.

Police emergency response vehicles will be positioned in the west stadium loading dock. SWAT team members will be wearing tactical clothing and equipment, including training firearms.

People near Bronco Stadium may hear loud sounds and noises that simulate gunfire during the training,  however, the weapons being used will only be firing simulated air munitions.

Law enforcement officers and emergency responders say being able to train on campus prior to an actual emergency response is invaluable.
