KUNA -- A Meridian woman is jailed on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a confrontation with another woman early this morning in Kuna.
Witnesses told police that a woman, later identified as 40-year-old Sherry Borgeman, pulled into the parking lot of the support services building for the Kuna School District and fired a gun at another vehicle. The incident happened on the 700 block of East Porter Street just before 6:30 a.m.
However, upon further investigation, authorities now say there was never any gunfire at all. Witnesses did report hearing a loud sound, which they believed was a gun going off. Investigators say the sound actually came from a device that caused the driver's side window of the victim's vehicle to shatter.
The Ada County Sheriff's Office says after shattering the window, Borgeman pointed a loaded gun at the 39-year-old female victim.
Officers say there was a short struggle between the women. Two people saw the struggle and ran over to help. They were able to take the gun away from the suspect.
At that point, Borgeman jumped in her car and left. Witnesses took down her license plate number and gave it to police.
Kuna Police and Ada County Sheriff's detectives used that license plate to track Borgeman down at her Meridian home.
"Crisis negotiation team members called her and talked to her, and about after a little over an hour of conversation she ended up opening the door and coming out of the residence where she was, taken into custody without any incident." said Kuna Police Chief Cody Aldrich.
Borgeman is in now in the Ada County Jail. She will be arraigned on the felony charge Friday afternoon.
The sheriff's office says the two women knew each other and described them as "friends" but did not say what motivated the shooting.
The victim was taken to St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center as a precaution. We are told she was not injured.
