BOISE -- A cab driver has been cited for driving under the influence after crashing into a police car Friday morning sending both drivers to the hospital.
The Garden City patrol car and taxi collided at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Adams Street injuring the officer.
Garden City Police say Officer John Goodman was on patrol in a marked cop car going west at the intersection when he was hit by the taxi heading north. Goodman called in the crash himself at 7:18 a.m.
Chief James Bensley, GCPD, says witnesses told police that the taxi cab driver, James L. Huffman, 63, of Boise, failed to stop for the red light.
Boise Police has taken over the investigation and say Huffman was not on duty at the time of the crash, but he was on his way to work.
Police say both drivers were taken to a Boise hospital. Goodman was treated and released and is recovering at home.
Boise Police say Huffman was not seriously injured. He remains at the hospital for observation. This is Huffman's second DUI arrest. Police say the first was in Kootenai County in 2003.
