NAMPA -- Nampa restaurant and bar owners say they're excited to start serving hard liquor on Sundays because they hope the booze sales will boost their bottom lines.
The Nampa City Council voted to lift the city's prohibition on Sunday liquor sales in restaurants and bars last month.
Currently, restaurants and bars can only sell beer and wine on Sundays.
The new rules go into effect on Sunday in Idaho's second biggest city.
The Idaho Press-Tribune reports business owners say any new way of bringing in money will help them out in tough times. Nampa mayor Tom Dale also supports the change, saying the restriction put local businesses at a disadvantage.
Opponents contend it's irresponsible to ease rules on liquor sales without a state-led effort to toughen drunken driving laws.
