CALDWELL -- Idaho State Police are investigating a crash between a Canyon Highway District gravel truck and Volkswagen Passat in Caldwell.
The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday on Middleton Road about 100 yards south of Linden Road.
Police say 31-year-old Maria Gonzalez-Pineda had parked her Passat on the right shoulder near the intersection and made a U-turn. She was then hit in the passenger door side by a semi pulling two gravel trailers driven by 61-year-old James Weast of Caldwell. The force of the impact was so strong that the passenger door ended up on the driver's side of the VW.
Gonzalez-Pineda was taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise with a possible broken arm and leg.
Police say she is lucky to be alive because she was not wearing a seatbelt.
Weast was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt.
