BOISE -- When Boise State signed National College Sports Media Marketing firm Learfield Sports to head up its football and basketball programs, some said the days of local companies having their ads on Bronco games would be over.
Tuesday, Kevin Godwin, the general manager of KIDO radio, which lost the contract to KBOI, sent out a release making that argument saying that with what he was being asked to give up would "most likely have to make significant adjustments in terms of advertsing rates and staff. If we would have entertained this bid and won it, our staff, our advertisers, and our listeners would lose."
We asked KBOI general manager Don Morin if this was the end of local sports broadcasting the way we know it.
"We have no plans to cut our staff and no plans to increase advertsing rates," said Morin.
He said this results in a tremendous business opportunity for his radio group.
