BOISE -- A new free dental clinic in Boise will allow kids from low-income households to get a check-up without ever leaving their school.
The students welcomed the new addition with a song.
"We shall brush our teeth three times a day,” they sang.
The free dental clinic has been in operation since 1954, but it was on Saturday they officially opened at Whitney Elementary School.
The clinic is offered to all students in the Boise School District who are on the free and reduced school lunch program.
All of the equipment and supplies were donated and it's staffed by volunteer dentists from Boise like Doctor Tom Curtis.
He said it's a rewarding job.
"Children that don't have the opportunity to go to a dentist may end up having toothaches,” Curtis said. “And you know how important it is to have a nice smile. It can open an opportunity or a door and we feel that all children should be at least able to have peace and comfort and be pain free.”
A 2006 bond election made construction of the new dental clinic possible.
