TWIN FALLS - For a Kimberly family, this is the first holiday without their son, Chief Warrant Officer Matthew C. Heffelfinger .

He died November 8th in a helicopter crash in Tikrit, Iraq.

The 29-year-old is now buried in Twin Falls.

His family had not wanted to make any public comments until now--Thursday, his dad called KTVB with a statement to thank the community.

“We were humbled to see so many businesses with signs showing support and their sincere condolences,” Craig Heffelfinger said. “Tonya’s family and the entire Heffelfinger family wish to thank all those who offered prayers and support during our time of need. We are so fortunate to call the Magic Valley home.”

Heffelfinger also said they are celebrating Matt’s life this Thanksgiving.

“My son was a humble person who preferred not to draw attention to himself,” he said. “He was one who walked the walk and commanded respect by his actions without needing to talk to that talk.”
