CANYON COUNTY -- A long redistricting process has put a time crunch on preparations for the May primary election.

Because of population growth over the past decade, Canyon County has to redraw its precinct boundaries and establish new polling places -- and it all has to be done by February 27th.

The redistricting panel didn't adopt new legislative boundaries until the end of January. That leaves the clerk's office with half the usual time to get polling places and ballots ready for the election.

At the same time, counties around Idaho are also preparing for elections in March -- many of them for school levies.

A bill that would move Idaho's primary back to August was introduced in the Legislature last month, but it is still in the House State Affairs Committee.
