GARDEN CITY -- A Boise man is jailed on charges of grand theft auto, DUI and malicious injury to property after leading police on a brief chase on Chinden Boulevard early Wednesday morning.

Just after midnight, the driver of a Nissan truck raced past a Garden City Police officer near 37th and Chinden at 90 miles per hour.  The officer gave chase, and the driver made an erratic right turn onto Orchard Street.  The truck struck the median, nearly rolled and came to a stop.

The driver has been identified as Adam Pehringer, 25, of Boise.  He was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail.

Police says Pehringer was intoxicated and had just stolen a truck from Kids Gloves, a nearby body shop. During the theft, Pehringer drove the truck through a locked gate, causing extensive damage.

Several vehicles in the body shop's parking lot had been burglarized and vandalized.  Police recovered numerous stolen items in the stolen truck that Pehringer was driving.

Pehringer is scheduled to be arraigned in 4th District Court tomorrow afternoon.
