BOISE COUNTY -- The 12-mile stretch of Highway 21 between the Grandjean Junction and Banner Summit closed at 1:50 p.m. Friday for an avalanche, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.
This is the third closure of this section of the highway this winter. In all, 45 slides have come down on the roadway since the first of November.
The notorious "Avalanche Alley" section between the Grandjean Junction turnoff and Banner Summit is home to about 60 avalanche chutes and 90 percent of the avalanches in the state that affect highways.
No word on when the highway will reopen.
