BOISE - Skiers and snowboarders are itching to hit the slopes -- and now it's only a matter of time.

The season will get underway at some area resorts as early as Thanksgiving, making for an exciting holiday weekend for those ready to carve some powder.

Here is a list of when most ski resorts expect to open:

 Thursday, November 26

  • Sun Valley Resort
  • Lookout Pass Recreation Area in northern Idaho

 Friday, November 27

  • The Schweitzer Mountain Resort near Sandpoint
  • Silver Mountain Resort near Kellogg
  • Grand Targhee near Driggs

Middle to late December

  • Magic Mountain Resort near Twin Falls
  • Pebble Creek Ski Area near Inkom
  • Bald Mountain Ski Area near Pierce
  • Lost Trail Powder Mountain near Sula
  • Kelly Canyon Ski Area near Ririe

Brundage Mountain Resort near McCall must wait to open until snow base at the summit is 24 inches.

If your favorite ski resort isn't listed above, that means it was unable to predict an opening date.
