BOISE -- A private foundation is putting its philanthropic heft behind the expansion and start up of charter schools in Idaho, where waiting lists are 7,000-students long.
The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation announced Friday more than $1 million in spending to create greater awareness and more participation when it comes to choice in education.
The foundation will put most of the money toward expanding nine high-performing charter schools. The plan includes an online directory of K-12 education available in Idaho, including traditional, charter, virtual and other types of schools.
This is the foundation's largest one-time contribution toward charter schools in Idaho and comes on the heels of the group's launch of a $20 million campaign to boost college graduation rates.
