BOISE -- There wouldn't be a win without Coach Akey's decision to go for two and as fans say he is the star of the show. Vandal fans say they're going to let this moment linger as long as they can. Many including head coach Robb Akey say that the two-point conversion to come back and win the game was a gutsy call.
"First off congratulations, but gutsy call at the end. Thank you very much. These guys did a great job. We had a little momentum and why wait until later to win it, let's win it now," said Akey.
With less than 40 seconds left in the game, the Bowling Green Falcons scored the go-ahead touchdown. About 30 seconds later the Vandals answered. It was Vandals 41, Falcons 42 and either a two-point conversation or a PAT still to go.
"We were calling for two the whole time. We knew that the game was over, we needed to get one chance to take it home, and we did it. Yeah!" said Vic Rosales.
"You have to try. Have to try. Game is on the line, gutsy call, you got to do it," said Jeremy Peabody.
"Did you want to go for two? Yes. I was yelling go for two, go for two. I thought they were going to give me the ball and let me run it in, but they called a great play and it worked, execute it and we came out on top. I love it," said DeMaundrey Wooldridge, game MVP.
"I went back and forth a little bit. We had some communication, but we had something that we felt like we could trust. I know my players wanted to do it, and therefore they were going to make it happen," said Akey.
"With our offense you've got to make that call, and I love the call," said Ace Clark.
"He asked me what I wanted to do, and I said I have confidence in our offense, and he gave the green light, and I was appreciative of that given that I have so much confidence in our offense to get it done for us," said Nathan Enderle, Quarterback for the Vandals.
Confidence and execution gave the Vandals a 43 to 42 lead and an eventual victory.
"It means the world. The seniors are going out with a win," said Wooldridge.
But this win, this Vandal miracle on the blue, won't soon be forgotten.
"Describe this game to the other games that you guys have had here. Well in the time I've been here, nothing comes close to this, I don't think there's been a better bowl game here than this one. This has got to top them all," said Kevin McDonald.
Fans both on the field and in the Stueckle Sky Center now have a new great moment to remember.
"Joel Thomas all over again. It's just Vandals, that's how we do it here in Bronco Stadium," said Tony Wozniak.
"It's a magical Vandal season, it was meant to be. We had to go for two. It was our time. It's the Vandal's time," said Rosales.
"I'm pretty proud of this. I made the comment earlier, this is the best I've seen this place look. I like it with all the Vandals all over the place," said Akey.
Coach Robb Akey, if he didn't already have it before, has the support of nearly every Vandal fan. And to celebrate the victory several fans said Boise will be rocking Wednesday night.
