Facial Procedures

Some of the most visible signs of aging first appear on the face. Although the changes appear gradually, there may come a day when you look in the mirror and decide that the face you see doesn't reflect the way you feel about yourself. If you'd like to look as good as you feel, a facelift also known as rhytidectomy can help. A facelift smooths the loose skin on your face and neck, tightens underlying tissues and removes excess fat. As a result, your face will appear firmer and fresher.

A facelift is most commonly performed on patients in the 40 - 60 age range. However, the procedure can produce good results for people in their 60s, 70s, and 80s as well. You may be a good candidate for a facleift if you have any of the following types of conditions:

  • a deep line that runs from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth
  • loss of a well-defined jawline
  • deep wrinklesin the cheeks and sagging skin near the cheekbones
  • loose skin, wrinkles or excess fatty tissue in the neck

When you come in to our office for your initial consultation, you will meet with Dr. McKim and his staff who will talk with you about the procedure, do an examination, answer any questions you may have and take your photograph for our records. Dr. McKim will assess your bone structure and the underlying tissue sof your face. The thickness, texture and elasticity of your skin and the severity of the wrinkles and folds will also be considered. Your hairline will be examined to determine where the incisions can be discreetly placed. All of these factors will be considered in developing your surgical plan.

Dr. McKim and his staff will also explain additional procedures that can be performed along with a facelift to meet your appearance goals. For example, a facelift is frequently combined with:

  • a forehead lift, to correct lines or furrows in the brow
  • a temporal lift, to correct lines along the temple region
  • chin plication to define and shape the area under the chin
  • eyelid surgery, to eliminate drooping upper eyelids or bags beneath the eyes
  • nose reshaping
  • skin treatments, such as chemical peel or laser resurfacing, to minimize fine wrinkles

During your initial consultation we will also discuss with you what to expect with the healing process, show you our surgical facility, answer any questions that you may have, and take your photograph for our records.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Do you have that worn out, tired look? Are you frequently asked if you are sad, tired, or angry? More than any other feature on your face, your eyes reveal the most about how your feel. If you have doopy upper lids and/or lower lid bags or puffiness making you look tired, sad, or older than you feel, blepharoplasty surgery may be just what you need. Blepharoplasty surgery removes the excess skin and fat of the eyelids, tightening them up, making you look for alert and rested.

Blepharoplasty surgery is a common procedure for both men and women of all ages. You may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery is you have any of the following conditions: Excess skin that hides the natural fold o fthe upper eyelids, loose skin that hangs down from the upper eyelids, puffiness in the upper and/or lower eyelids that creates a tired look.

A personal consultation with Dr. McKim is the first step to take if you are considering eyelid surgery. During your initial consultation Dr. McKim will assess your physical and emotional health and discuss your specific cosmetic goals for surgery. He will also examine the amount of excess fat and skin in your eyelid areas, the position of your eyebrows, and the condition of the muscles around your eyelids. Dr. McKim may also suggest other treatments available to help you acheive your cosmetic goals.
