Three years ago my husband lost his job twice and I was approached by a local farmer with the idea of growing a garden to help supplement a bit. They helped teach me, a city girl with no green thumb, all the essentials of tending a garden. I then took my small bounty to the local farmers market and was so proud of what I had grown, that I pretty much gave it all away!
Since then, I have found a passion and a love for growing that I have expanded my garden in many ways. Most everything in my hard has been free or recycled in some way, inspiring even more ideas on how to expand my garden in the little space that I have. I also have a pup who loves the garden as much as I do so I also have an element of dog proofing in everything I add to the yard. My California friends and family tease me for becoming a country girl, but I can't imagine being any other way. I love dirt, I love sharing, I love recycling! My children also see what I've been doing and they too have come up with ideas on things to grow, they love the farmers market! My oldest son was inspired to start building things to sell, out of scrap wood! My excitement and love has started to have a ripple effect, what else could I ask for?
The last three years have been challenging, especially with the weather and the economy, but I have found so much pleasure in feeding, sharing, and educating others on how to be resourceful. My garden has changed my life so much that I can't imagine going without it now.
