Last saturday night in Emmett was the next best thing to Boise State's Fiesta Bowl win. The new Boise Buccaneers were matched up against the 2009 defending PDFL Champions, the Tacoma Cobras. The Cobras, which was on a 12 game winning streak since 2009 was knocked off by the newly formed Boise Buccaneers. After falling behind 14-0, the Bucs finally got on the board and the the points kept coming. At halftime the score was 14-12 allowing the Bucs to believe that they can play with the defending Champions! Coming out of the locker room the teams scored back in forth until it was 2 minutes left in the game with score 30- 24, Tacoma. After receiving the pursuing kickoff, the Bucs marched to the to midfid using the sideline to save the clock. With 7 seconds remaining in the game Quarterback Brian Stogshill lauched 50+ yard hail mary pass to be caught by wide receiver Chase Braser after being tip multiple times by Cobra players. The Buccaneers tied the ballgame with 0 seconds on the clock. The Buccaneeers had a chance to win the game with a successful extra point. Unfortunately the extra point l was missed, which lead to overtime and a spectacular finish. The Buccaneers won the coin toss and returned the pursuing kickoff to the Cobras 45 yard line. The Cobras held strong, forcing the Buccaneers to turn the ball over on downs. The Cobras started marching down field getting big chunks of yards. The Buccaneers knew they needed to keep the Cobras out of field goal range due to the Cobras kicker not missing one all day. The Buccaneers put the pressure on forcing the Cobras Quarterback out of the pocket, where linebacker Wesley Zedalis hit the Cobras QB low forcing him up in the air where cornerback Marco Garcia was able to take another shot at the QB, which caused the Cobras QB to fumble staight into the arms of linebacker Charles Dabney. After landing with the ball, Dabney returned the forced fumble 50 plus yard for the game winning touchdown. Bucs win, Bucs Win, Bucs win! This game was one of the most exciting finishes that any of the Buccaneers players have ever been apart of! The Boise buccaneers will play the Bellingham Blitz next Saturday at Emmett High School at 6pm. Come out to support you new Boise Buccaneers.
