EXERGY TOUR – Hurting our community

Our local Columbia Wildcat Cheerleaders were asked to participate at the Exergy Tour in May to provide all of the labor associated with the Recycling and Trash pick-up for the 6-day event. In exchange for these services, Exergy promised to make a $2,000 payment/donation. After months of non-payment, yesterday Columbia Wildcat Cheerleaders were told that Exergy will not be paying.
Why does this hurt our community?

EXERGY - Hurting or Community!!!

• Columbia Cheerleaders passed on other fundraising opportunities in anticipation of this event.
• We anticipated this money would pay for a cheer clinic that we had over the summer. We made a promise to pay the organization that sponsored our clinic and they understood that we were waiting on the payment from Exergy. Unfortunately, Columbia Wildcat Cheerleaders now have an outstanding debt to pay and limited resources to pay.
• Columbia Wildcat Cheerleaders look up to these strong female athletes and were excited to participate in event that is meant to promote and support female athletes.
• As a school group, we do not have the resources to take legal action and we are the last in line behind larger vendors and corporations, who can afford legal action, to be paid if this current situation proceeds to bankruptcy.
• If they could afford to fly Patrick Dempsey in for the event, why can’t they afford to pay us the $2, 000 for 6 days of hard work. (Many of our girls even got their pictures taken with Patrick Dempsey.)
• Does this teach these young impressionable girls not to participate, work or volunteer at other community events and with other groups in general?

Due to the current economical hardships many families are facing, Columbia Wildcat Cheerleaders are currently seek sponsorships to help pay for their uniforms, cheer clinic and costs associated with competitions they would like to compete in later this year. We have included a link where donations can be made to help these girls pay for the expenses associated with Cheer to ensure these girls can support the other student athletes at our school. All donations are greatly appreciated!!
