In the wake of the two dogs recently caught in traps on public lands, people need to be aware that there are parts of the Boise River bank where it IS legal to place traps (KTVB wrongly reported that it is NOT legal to set traps along the Boise River; while this might be true of the majority of the areas along the Boise River most used by the public, it is not true of some parts of the Boise River outside city limits). This photo is of a heron that my son and his friends found with its leg caught in a legally placed trap on the Boise River (outside of city limits). They were able to release the bird, but its leg was severely damaged. We were outraged to learn that this trap was legally set there. Imagine if this had been someone's pet or child caught in the trap? I hope that someday the laws will change and trappers will not be able to place their "land mines" on public lands that are intended for the enjoyment of EVERYONE.
