A few weeks ago my son, Shydyn came to my husband and I and wanted to talk. He had an idea.... Instead of presents for his 9th birthday he wanted to collect money for a local animal organization. He has always had a love for animals (especially bats!) and felt he could help them out by donating money collected for his birthday instead of presents!
We were so proud of him for coming up with this idea on his own and we were ready to support him in any way possible. We helped him research local animal charities and he decided Animals In Distress Association was the perfect organization to donate to!
He sent out 30 invites with specific instructions.. (see photo) and his friends responded amazingly! Some children emptied their piggy banks into the donation bucket, some brought cash they had saved up, and some brought checks from their families... all for Animals in Distress association.
When the party was over and the donations were counted, Shydyn had raised $410 for AIDA!! We went to bed that night so proud of our son and his amazing generosity. Then we laughed as we remembered a promise we had made to him... if you notice at the bottom of the invitation... we offered to match every dollar he collected! (We had no idea he was going to collect that much!) So all in all Shydyn has collected $820 for Animals In Distress!
We will soon be presenting the check to the AIDA. Hopefully Shydyn will inspire other kids to help out charities in their community!
