NEW YORK (AP) — Carson Daly admits he was worried about comparisons of his new singing competition show, "The Voice," with "American Idol."
He says "Idol" is a "great story" but "The Voice" is fresh because it picks contestants by the sound of their voice and mentors them from there.
So far, viewers are tuning in. Its ratings jumped 12 percent for its second week.
Daly is also in his 10th season of his late night talk show, "Last Call with Carson Daly" on NBC. He says that on the show, he loves to showcase artists who are on their way up even if it's at an hour where most viewers are sleeping.
Daly also still works in radio, hosting a weekday morning drive show on 97.1 FM in Los Angeles.
