BOISE -- Have you ever seen someone give another person the coat off their back? It happened in 2010 during 7Cares Day. It is that kind of selflessness and generosity that makes Idaho such a wonderful place to live.
That kind of giving spirit will be showcased this morning during 7Cares Day.
We want you to join us during this very special Season of Hope event. There are many ways for you to be involved.
First, you can tune into our coverage from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on KTVB. Idaho's NewsChannel 7 employees will be standing by at three donation sites waiting for your donation. If you cannot make it in person to donate, you can do so from your cell phone by texting 7CARES to 50555. We will be set up at the Idaho Center, the KTVB Studios and at Fred Meyer in Twin Falls. All donations will be distributed to the following four charities: Salvation Army, Idaho Foodbank, Jubilee House, and Boise Rescue Mission.
During the 2010 7Cares Day event, Dee Sarton explained did a great job explaining that even the smallest donation will make a huge impact.
"One of the young women [volunteers] just said to me, 'One car handed me a $1,000 check. I was so choked up I could hardly even stand it. Then I went to the next car, and that person rolled their window down and handed me $3, and said "This is all I have to give, but I just wanted to be part of it."' The gift is the heart, it's not just the amount. The gift is the heart."
We are counting on you to help make this event just as successful and powerful as it has been in years past. We have no doubt that the community's donations and spirit will exceed all expectations.
KTVB General Manager Doug Armstrong said it all last year when he said, "There is no doubt that this community is one of the most giving in America."
You can get a sense about just how wonderful this community is by watching the highlights from 7Cares Day 2010 below:
