Saturday marked the 15th Annual Stuff the Bus toy drive taking place at Fred Meyer locations across the Treasure Valley.

"The important thing about Stuff the Bus is that it gives hope," said Captain John Stennett with the Salvation Army. "It's so great to see the children. The families have been through a tough time. They get the opportunity to celebrate Christmas."

In the past 14 years, generous Idahoans have donated more than 73,000 toys.

"You even see hope on the eyes of the parents because they weren't sure how they were going to be able to provide anything for their kids during Christmas, and all of a sudden we're able to provide them with the toys," said Stennett.

The Salvation Army plans to help 4,000 families throughout the Treasure Valley this holiday season.

They're able to do it because of generous people like Becky Wensel.

"We feel its important to set a good example for the kids and help people that are less fortunate," said Wensel after donating to the Stuff the Bus drive. "Christmas is a special time for our family. We want everyone to be able to enjoy it."

The BSU Army ROTC even helped stuff the bus.

"We want to do anything we can for families overseas or people who are here," said Cadet Courtney Corcoran. "It's Christmas. We want to have the holiday spirit. We want to do anything we can to help all families."

Each toy, both small and large, will go to a growing population of children in need.

"Some of the children will not even realize just how important it was to them until they are older," said Stennett.

If you want to participate in Stuff the Bus, you still have time. You can take a new toy and drop it off in barrels at any Treasure Valley Fred Meyer. You can also drop them off at The Salvation Army. Donations will be accepted up until Christmas.
